Serve on the CLOC Board
The Board sets CLOC’s direction and oversees its governance and finances. Directors come from across the legal ecosystem, including legal operations professionals and legal service providers. Three directors who are legal operations professionals finish their terms on December 31, 2026. To keep a strong practitioner voice on the Board, nominees for these seats must be legal operations professionals. Board seats use their own nomination form and election process. About the opportunities
You can apply to join a Council or Committee, or to lead a Group. Read a brief description of each, as well as total seats open for 2027, in our CLOC Governance Framework.

All roles are open to CLOC members. We welcome senior leaders and people just starting out, from every part of the legal ecosystem. Not a member yet? Join CLOC before you apply.
Plan on at least two hours a month. Expect a bit more time at the start of your term while teams map their strategies and goals for the year ahead. Meetings are remote, and Council, Committee and Group members decide how often to meet. For more on each role’s commitments, see our CLOC Governance Framework.

Yes. You may indicate interest in as many opportunities as you wish. Most selected volunteers will be matched with one primary role.

Selection and serving
Members may serve in no more than two CLOC volunteer opportunities at the same time. Anyone serving in two roles must be able to meet the expectations of both.
Members can only serve in one executive leadership role at a time. That means Chair, Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, Treasurer or a designated Leadership position.
Yes. We consider your current CLOC commitments, along with the role limits above. If you are currently serving and would like to be considered for a different role, please indicate that in your application.
Selection is based on qualifications, available positions, organizational needs and current CLOC commitments, and is not guaranteed. A small group, including the Board Chair, reads every application. If an executive leadership role isn’t the right fit this time, we’ll keep your application in mind as we consider other volunteer leadership opportunities, including Committee roles.
All applicants will hear from CLOC by November 20. Terms begin in January 2027.

Board nominations use a separate form and election process. Use the Board nomination form to nominate yourself or a colleague by October 31, 2026.
Three seats held by legal operations professionals open at the end of the year. The Board also includes legal service providers and other members of the legal ecosystem, whose seats are not currently open for nomination. Read more in Laura Dieudonné’s blog post.
