It all started with a phone call. Connie Brenton was relocating and looking to connect with others in a role that was still new and undefined. The hope was that others were out there doing similar work, even if it didn’t yet have a name or structure. What began as a small group of professionals guiding legal departments beyond the practice of law grew into regular meetings and eventually the founding of CLOC.

Ten years ago, this group came together to transform the business and practice of law. Today, CLOC is the only global, peer-led community bringing the legal ecosystem together in meaningful and lasting ways. Thank you to the members, partners, sponsors, board members, and employees who have been part of this journey.

A decade of milestones

2015 – Anticipating opportunity:

CLOC is founded to meet the growing need for dedicated support for legal operations professionals in all roles and levels.

2016 – First Institute:

CLOC hosts its first major event in San Francisco for 500 hundred attendees. Regional groups are started to support growing membership.

2017 – Big gets bigger:

The CLOC Global Institute (CGI) in Las Vegas welcomes 1,800 attendees.

2018 – Global growth:

CLOC expands into the EMEA and APAC markets and hosts its international Summits alongside CGI.

2019 – Pushing the industry forward:

CLOC releases the Core 12 – its flagship reference model for legal operations optimization.

2020 – Challenges:

CLOC faces the challenges of world disrupted by the pandemic – and launches its CLOC Talk Podcast to reach people wherever they are.

2021 – Virtual pivot:

CLOC hosts its first virtual conference. Membership is expanded to include the entire legal ecosystem.

The CLOC community eagerly reconnects at in-person events and regional meetings, bigger and stronger than ever.

CLOC grows its staff to support its growing member bases and launched new format educational formats.

CLOC formalizes its presence in Brazil, Mexico and Spain. The Maturity Assessment Playbook is launched to help members strengthen their legal operations function.
