CLOC Releases New Core 12 Maturity Assessment Playbook to Advance Legal Operations Efficiency
SAN JOSE, CA, May 2, 2024: The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) has released the “Core 12 Maturity Assessment Playbook – a Guide to Improving Legal Operations,” available to download as a member benefit on the cloc.org website. This playbook provides a structured framework for assessing and enhancing operational maturity across twelve critical areas aligned with the CLOC Core 12.
The playbook guides legal operations professionals through a comprehensive process of evaluating their current operational status, setting objectives, and implementing strategies to progress through four stages of maturity. This approach helps legal departments establish clear, actionable goals and measure their progress effectively.
Jenn McCarron, President of CLOC, highlighted the playbook’s strategic value: “This playbook is the essential how-to manual for deploying the CLOC Core 12, tailored to tackle any mix of challenges and strategies business face at different stages of maturity. It’s a game changer.”
Dana Harris and Lindsay Staples, chair CLOC Law Department Maturity Assessment and Planning (LDMAP) Committee and were instrumental in shepherding this valuable work forward. Released ahead of the 2024 CLOC Global Institute in Las Vegas, scheduled for May 6-9, CLOC will highlight the playbook, and a companion online assessment tool, in a breakout session titled “The CLOC Legal Maturity Assessment Tool – Expert Insights and Hands-On Exercises.” CLOC members attending this session can request to participate in the beta version of the forthcoming maturity tool, which will amplify the Playbook content by engaging respondents in a step-by-step assessment process and ultimately provide benchmarks against other respondents.
CLOC prioritized meeting accessibility standards with the release of the digital playbook, to ensure inclusive access to the Core12 Maturity Assessment Playbook for members of all abilities.

Members will receive a unique code to claim their playbook, which can be accessed from a computer, eReader, tablet, or mobile device. The Playbook will be available for purchase starting May 15.
