LOCP

The certification that proves you know legal operations

The CLOC Legal Operations Certified Professional (LOCP) is for experienced legal operations professionals. The exam will measure the judgment you’ve built in practice. The first candidates sit for it in May 2027.

What earning the LOCP means

CLOC’s move from a certificate to a certification reflects the maturation of the legal operations profession. A certificate can demonstrate participation in or completion of an educational program. Certification goes a step further: it establishes a defined professional standard and provides a way for individuals to demonstrate that they meet that standard through a formal validation process. The LOCP will tell GCs, boards, and other legal operations leaders that your judgment has been tested and holds up. This is what it means to be certified in legal operations, a signal of where you stand in the field.

Who’s eligible for the LOCP?

You’ll need all of the following:

  • Three or more years of experience in legal operations
  • Ownership of a functional area within a legal department
  • Experience leading strategy or cross-functional initiatives
  • A track record of managing stakeholders across teams

Why pursue the LOCP?

Certification helps you:

  • Show your skill across all areas of the CLOC Core 12
  • Cary a credential that goes with you from job to job
  • Give your GC a  clear, outside measure of your skills
  • Connect with other certified legal ops professionals

How to prepare

CLOC Academy serves as the first authorized learning provider for the LOCP certification. The first opportunity to sit for the LOCP exam will be at the CLOC Academy pre-event program on May 10, ahead of the CLOC Global Institute in Las Vegas. Future CLOC Academy Days, held across the country, will offer additional opportunities as the program grows.

How the exam is built

The LOCP follows the standards used by recognized professional certifications. Legal operations leaders on the Certification Advisory Committee define what the exam covers. Assessment specialists test that it measures those skills fairly.
