Inside the Bags (and Minds) of Legal Ops Leaders Heading to CGI: Part 2

As we continue the count down to the CLOC Global Institute, more of the community is weighing in. They’re bringing CGI must-haves in their bags and big ideas to the conversation.

🎒 The Bags: What We’re Packing

CGI necessitates strategic packing. Comfortable shoes, reliable chargers, and layers for unpredictable weather are favorites among the CLOC community.

In addition to the basics, some are bringing items for the long days where an extra boost may be needed:

  • Louisa Toy: emergency supply of chocolate
  • Matt Wheatley: electrolytes and a backpack
  • Áine Lyons: Wim Hof app for breathwork
  • Alex Gao: a hydrating face mask
  • Katrina Gowans: tissues on hand because she can’t attend, but she won’t have FOMO
  • Darth Vaughn: sunscreen
  • John Esposito: a plan for stamina that includes strong coffee discipline
  • Tanya Svoboda: lip balm

🧠 The Brains: What We’re Bringing

If the first group signaled a shift toward AI implementation, this group sharpens the focus even further: What actually works and what doesn’t.

Janessa Nelson is bringing hard-fought lessons from AI efforts beyond just GenAI.

Laura Dieudonne is leaning into what didn’t go to plan, sharing lessons from tech investments and operating model decisions that required course correction.

There’s also a growing call to fix the fundamentals before scaling technology.

Colin Levy has seen AI adoption in contract lifecycle management fail as legal teams attempt to automate already broken processes. He’s coming to CGI asking what a truly AI-ready contracting process looks like before technology is layered in, and who should own that transformation across legal, legal ops, and procurement.

Brian Moretti is bringing a practical approach to AI, including the distinction between real transformation and expensive experimentation.

At the same time, the conversation is expanding beyond execution into responsibility and direction.

Mark Allen is approaching CGI from a member-first perspective, aiming to listen and translate community needs into meaningful AI opportunities.

Jerry Levine is bringing a renewed focus on trust in the AI era,  saying it must be measured,, managed, and protected.

Others are focused on connection, evolution, and the role experience plays in shaping both.

Coming to CGI from a law firm, Michelle Friends is looking for partnerships with legal ops professionals.

LaResa Young is bringing a passion for operational excellence and meaningful change, with a focus on collaboration.

Louisa Toy is sharing what it really takes to implement and sustain transformation, including navigating resistance, building structure, and managing the human side of change.

Anna Richards is bringing energy, connection, and conversation, reminding us that some of the most valuable moments at CGI won’t be on the agenda.

Between parts one and two, it is clear that the legal ops community is moving past theory and into practice. Leaders are focusing less on possibility, and more on what holds up over time.

The conversations at CGI will reflect that shift. They’ll be grounded in real experience, shaped by honest reflection, and driven by a shared goal of making progress that lasts.
