PRESS RELEASE

SAN JOSE, CA, July 30, 2019 — The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) has announced the launch of a new community for legal operations professionals at law firms.

CLOC has paved the way for change among corporate in-house legal operations professionals for many years, Over time, many law firms have invested in their own legal operations staff and technology and are now experiencing the same challenges as their In-House counterparts. Recognizing the need for increased collaboration between Law Firms and corporate legal operations, CLOC has responded with the new Law Firm Community.

The demand for law firms to show their in-house clients that they are delivering legal services efficiently continues to grow each year. The rules are changing for law firms and the need to run their firms “like a business” has never been greater.

According to Mary O’Carroll, CLOC President and Head of Legal Operations at Google, “We believe CLOC has a huge role to play in aligning firms and legal departments and in driving better understanding between the two worlds. One of CLOC’s core tenants is to drive change at scale and engaging with law firms will continue to drive that change.”

Participation in the new community is open to legal professionals who devote the majority of their focus to legal operations, or business management, and who are employed in a private law firm defined as a business entity whose primary purpose is the practice of law. Those employed by entities who provide goods and services to the legal market are not eligible to participate in the new community.

“Law Firms have been asking for a seat at the table and to be a part of the conversation in driving change in legal operations,” said Mike Haven, CLOC Board Member and AGC and Head of Legal Operations at Gap Inc. “The new Law Firm Community is designed to encourage collaboration and sharing between all facets of the legal sphere in order to transform legal operations.”

Law Firm Group participants will have access to their own CLOC Law Firm Community site to share with their like-minded colleagues, discuss legal operations successes and challenges and engage with CLOC members. CLOC members are encouraged to opt in to participate with their law firm counterparts in the new site and to engage in discussions around various overlapping issues such as diversity and inclusion, billing, and much more.
