San Jose, CA — The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC), leader in optimizing legal services delivery models for the legal ops professional, has announced the names of ten winners of the 2019/2020 CLOC Scholarship. In total, the scholarship program awarded $60,000 this year.

This year marks the fourth time that CLOC has awarded scholarships since its inception in 2016. Over four years, CLOC has awarded nearly $150,000 in scholarships. A committee of CLOC Regional Leaders selected the scholarship recipients from a large pool of applicants. Applicants were judged on their scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities, leadership abilities, academic and personal goals, and an essay summarizing educational goals and future career plans.

“Each year, I am amazed by the skills and accomplishments of the students who apply for this scholarship. Their contributions are making a real impact to their communities and beyond,” said Christine Coats, VP Legal Operations, Oracle and CLOC Board Member, “I am very proud we are able to recognize their success and are able to support their pursuit of education.”

To be eligible, the students had to be enrolled in a graduate degree (J.D., MBA, and other) program and have a business/metrics driven focus as it relates to the practice of law or have demonstrated an interest in Legal Operations. Students who are interested in the business of managing in-house legal department operations and driving the evolution of legal service delivery models were also included in the selection.

CLOC awarded ten $6,000 scholarships to each winner for the 2019/2020 school year. In addition, the winners received:

  1. An invitation to attend CLOC’s annual Institute which will be held on May 14-16, 2019 at the Bellagio Las Vegas. This is the first year that the winners were invited to the Vegas Institute. Attending the CLOC Institute will allow the winners to realize the value of legal operations as they become young attorneys in their future career. In addition, CLOC members and attendees will be able to share their knowledge of how CLOC and its members are changing the legal industry.
  2. A one-year membership to CLOC’s member-driven community which will allow them to engage with CLOC members, learn from those who are changing the industry and participate in the educational opportunities that CLOC provides.
  3. A regional leader mentor in the CLOC community to help guide them throughout the school year, as well as the opportunity to participate in CLOC regional meetings.
