23 Jan 2018 | Rosewood Hotel, London UK
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the inaugural EMEA Institute at the Rosewood Hotel in London! It was a phenomenal event as several hundred legal operation professionals, law firms, GC’s and legal services providers came together to partake in needed education which will ultimately power legal technology trends and shape the future of Legal Operations.
The one-day event was kicked off with remarks by Richard Susskind who urged in-house lawyers to stop 'tolerating' old-fashioned law firms.1
"In-house lawyers have tolerated law firms’ old-fashioned ways of working. Clients don’t want just professionals; they want the outcomes they bring and different ways of delivering them,” Susskind said. ”CLOC is a collective voice, and in-house lawyers can re-conceptualize how legal services are delivered. The future of legal services is within the grasp of CLOC."
Legal operations practitioners provided curated content during a very fast paced day. Over the course of eight sessions, attendees were introduced to CLOC’s 12 Core Competencies and were given first hand guidance in how global in-house leaders can make a winning case for a legal operations function.
Running corporate in-house legal departments like a business is quickly gaining traction; however, outside of the US, in-house legal ops teams are often smaller and oftentimes executives don’t understand how legal services are delivered. Attendees at the EMEA Institute were able to learn from the experiences of global legal operations leaders who had already made the case for dedicated support -- and won!
Legal ops professionals are valuable, high-impact players in many top corporate legal functions today and with educational sessions provided by industry leaders, the CLOC EMEA Institute offered those valued players an unrivaled opportunity to learn, share, and connect.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the CLOC 2019 EMEA Institute which is scheduled for 21-22 Jan, 2019 at The Landmark Hotel in London!
